12 Upper Porcelain Crowns
The patient presented with two main dental concerns. The first is a long-standing crossbite, which has contributed to uneven, 'rollercoaster' wear across the front teeth. The second was a retained baby canine tooth, which became loose. The patient was also concerned about the overall appearance of their teeth and wanted to achieve a more refreshed, youthful-looking smile.
During the consultation, Dr Matthew Pulvirenti assessed the patient’s bite, tooth structure and overall oral health before discussing the available treatment options. In this case, the existing crossbite and associated tooth wear meant that a comprehensive approach to the upper teeth was considered necessary to address the patient’s functional and aesthetic concerns.
The treatment plan involved placing 14 porcelain crowns across the upper teeth. The doctor removed the retained baby tooth and replaced the missing tooth with a three-unit porcelain bridge. The bridge accounted for three of the 14 porcelain restorations.
Digital Smile Design and digital scanning was used during the planning process to assess the proposed restorations alongside the patient’s bite, tooth proportions and overall smile. These technologies also help streamline communication between the clinical and lab teams throughout treatment.
The case was performed by Dr Matthew Pulvirenti. The patient reported being very pleased with the appearance of their smile following treatment. Individual results vary depending on each patient’s oral health, tooth structure, bite and treatment requirements.
