As your special day gets closer, you’ll want to make sure you’re looking and feeling your best, all the way down to your smile. One way to enhance your smile’s appearance is with professional teeth whitening from Edward St Dental. Our whitening treatments are generally safe and effective, so you can brighten and whiten your smile in time for your wedding day.

Whether you choose our Pola take-home whitening kit or our Zoom! chairside whitening treatment, we’ve got you covered.

The Photo-Ready Smile

With the summer wedding season upon us, it’s not too early to ensure you have a photo-ready smile. Many Australians choose to get married during the warmer months, and if you’re one of them, proper timing may be the key to success.

Our dental clinic offers professional, dentist-supervised teeth whitening to help you achieve a camera-ready smile. It’s a generally safe, effective cosmetic treatment option for many people.

The Essential First Appointment

At Edward St Dental, we recommend visiting a registered dentist instead of a non-dental cosmetic provider. You only get one smile, so don’t you want to trust it to a trained professional? Keeping your teeth and gums healthy is our top priority, so we hope you’ll allow us to oversee your treatment.

Here’s what you can expect from your first appointment:

  • Comprehensive check-up — First, we’ll perform a thorough examination to assess your teeth and gums. We’ll check for tooth decay, gum disease or other dental concerns.
  • Professional clean — Next, we’ll perform a professional clean and polish, removing the stubborn plaque and tartar buildup your toothbrush isn’t able to. After your clean, we’ll floss your teeth as well.
  • Assessment and recommendation — One of our dentists will speak with you about whether teeth whitening is a viable option for your smile. They will explain the in-chair treatment option and the take-home whitening kit, answering your questions along the way.

Choosing Your Professional, Dental-Grade Method

Our dental clinic adheres to strict standards; we’re registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and, as such, follow ethical standards.

Our teeth whitening options are as follows:

In-Chair Whitening

If you choose our Zoom! in-chair whitening option, you’ll need to arrange a visit about one to two weeks before your wedding. For this procedure, we’ll apply Zoom! whitening gel directly to your teeth. Then, the Zoom! LED light activates the hydrogen peroxide so it can penetrate your tooth enamel. In about one hour, you could lighten your teeth by several shades.

The “Gentle Result": Dentist-Prescribed Take-Home Kits

If you prefer to whiten your teeth at home, we offer the Pola take-home whitening kit. For this option, you’ll need to book a visit about two to three weeks before your special day. Your take-home kit includes custom whitening trays, whitening gel and an active light and pen to enhance the whitening process. In 7-10 days, you should see results, but results vary from person to person.

The DIY Warning

Choosing an over-the-counter whitening kit or visiting a non-dental cosmetic provider could cause damage to your teeth and gums. Because the AHPRA guidelines don’t regulate them, you can’t be sure whether they’re right for your smile or not.

At Edward St Dental, your safety is our top priority, and we’ll be with you every step of the way.

Mastering the Wedding Whitening Timeline

To avoid last-minute panic and to ensure you have enough time to whiten your teeth before your wedding day, here are our timeline recommendations:

  • 3+ months out — Arrange your initial dental consultation and professional clean and polish.
  • 2-3 weeks out — Begin your at-home treatment if this is your chosen option.
  • 1-2 weeks out — Arrange your in-chair treatment. This allows enough time for any temporary sensitivity to resolve before your wedding day.
  • 48 hours before — Consider a “white diet” to keep your teeth looking their best before the big day. Your tooth enamel is the most susceptible to staining immediately after treatment. Try to eat rice, potatoes, eggs, plain yogurt and bananas if you can. Or at least avoiding richly coloured foods.
