Although Invisalign® treatment is rarely painful, it’s normal to experience some soreness or tightness when you begin treatment or switch to a new set of aligners. Your mouth needs time to adjust to each set of trays.
Invisalign Treatment: What to Expect
Each set of custom aligners is designed to gently shift your teeth into the proper position, but for this to happen, you might feel gentle pressure on your teeth at the beginning of your treatment plan and when you change your trays.
However, compared to traditional braces, there is generally less discomfort with Invisalign clear aligners since there aren’t any brackets or wires that can irritate your gums, lips, cheeks and tongue.
Managing Discomfort
There are some things you can do to manage the adjustment period, including:
- Putting your trays in before you go to bed
- Taking over-the-counter medications
- Eating soft foods like eggs, noodles and smoothies
- Calling our dental clinic for advice
