RETAINER WEAR AND CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Congratulations, you have finished your Clear Aligner orthodontic treatment. We appreciate your cooperation and would like to advise you about how to continue to maintain the optimum position of your teeth.
Continued retainer care of your teeth is recommended because, throughout our lifetime the shape of your face, bone structure, and muscle strength changes. Occasionally, these changes will cause teeth to move undesirably.

Retainer use

DR MATTHEW PULVIRENTI would like you to wear your retainers:

  • 20 OUT OF 24 HOURS PER DAY FOR 6 MONTHS (except while drinking and eating)
  • Keep your retainer in your case when you are eating

If you follow this schedule, you will be doing all that is possible to maintain the quality of your orthodontic treatment results.

Retainer Care

  • Keep your retainers clean.
  • Use a soft bristle toothbrush on the tissue side of the retainer to loosen the invisible bacteria and plaque, and rinse thoroughly with cool or warm water.
  • Rinse your mouth and retainer with water if you can’t brush after meals.
  • Avoid hot water, sunlight, and soaking them in mouth wash as the plastic may break down or warp.

DO NOT:

  • Wrap your retainer in a napkin or paper towel – they may be thrown out.
  • Leave them on a lunch tray or sitting on a table, kitchen counter, etc. - they may be thrown out or broken.
  • Leave them near pets.
  • Put in your pocket – They could break or go through the washer/dryer.
  • Leave in heat – Do not boil, microwave, or place in excessive heat as they will warp or melt.
  • Soak your retainer in harsh chemicals such as bleach – These chemicals could be harmful to the retainer.

Call Edward Street Dental: PH: 07 3229 7771, immediately if you are having any type of problem with your retainer.
