8 Upper Porcelain Crowns

The patient presented with concerns about four upper front crowns that were placed more than 25 years ago. Over time, the crowns developed a grey appearance around the gumline, which can occur with some metal-based crown restorations. The crowns also showed areas of damage and previous repair work, while several of the surrounding back teeth had large existing fillings.

Together, these factors affected the overall appearance of the patient’s smile. The patient discussed their concerns and treatment goals with Dr Matthew Pulvirenti, who assessed the existing restorations and considered the available treatment options.

As part of the treatment plan, the doctor placed eight porcelain crowns across the upper front teeth. The team used Digital Smile Design technology as part of the planning process to assess proportions, tooth shape and the overall relationship between the proposed restorations and the patient’s smile.

The treatment focused on replacing the older restorations while creating a more consistent appearance across the upper teeth. The resulting smile reflected the patient’s individual treatment goals, with attention to tooth proportions, shade and a natural-looking appearance.
